African American History and Culture
Submitted by bugsly on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 - 17:36 Core | Georgia | Walk

Today was fun and also very historic.

We started out by going to the King Center (Martin Luther King Jr.) and seeing a powerful movie about the life of Dr. King and his influence on American history. After that, we headed down to Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, King's childhood church and the place he would later on co-preach with his father. Inside it was very beautiful, but what intrigued me the most was the podium at the front of the church which I had seen him stand at so many times in those history videos, only this was the real thing.

As soon as we finished with that we went to his Gravesite and saw the Eternal Flame in honor of Dr. King. Overall I have to say that my time at all of these sites was an experience that has given me mixed feelings about how our country really works.

Our next stop was a personal tour of a new Gees Bend Quilt Collection. We had an entertaining conversation and saw lots of amazing quilts made from outgrown clothing, including: cordouroy, jeans, sheets, and lots of other no longer useful materials. We also saw the incredible Gees Bend books that Tinwood have put together themselves. It was a wonderful way to end our day!

A busy day of tours and games in Atlanta
Submitted by bugsly on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 19:10 Georgia | Walk

Today was jam packed, but super fun!

In the morning we headed out to "The World of Coca-Cola" and learned all about the history, advertising, and how much of a universal drink Coca-Cola is. I would definitely recommend it as a place to see on your travels.

After that we headed down to the CNN Center, grabbed some lunch, and headed out for our guided tour. I have to say that seeing how organized all those people that work there was really intriguing to me. I think it would be an awsome job to be the person who reviews all the stories before they go on air.

Anyway, after that we decided to go to the Atlanta Hawks vs. Toronto Raptors basketball game. It was a ton of fun even though Atlanta lost 108-97.

So now we're laying back and putting our sore feet up, but I know that all of us are satisfied with our day.

Leaving the Cold...and finding Humidity
Submitted by bugsly on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 18:24 Fly | Georgia

This is my kind of weather! Even if it is humid! We arrived in Atlanta, Georgia today.

The plane ride was definitely the bumpiest one I've been on, it was practically a roller-coaster ride. As soon as we landed and got all of our baggage we headed down to our hotel got settled. After that we all had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, Atlanta. So far not much has happened, hopefully tommorrow will be more eventfull!
