The Ponte Vecchio and the Straw Market
Submitted by bugsly on Friday, March 17, 2006 - 01:06 Car | Core | Foreign Language and Music Study | Italy | Physical and Health Education | Walk

Today we got out the door just in time to catch the number twenty eight bus (we take the bus into the city because it is impossible to park there) and headed into the center of Florence. Over the course of the day we got Gelato, and bought a couple little souvenirs, but the main attraction was the Ponte Vecchio. Inside the famous covered bridge are lots and lots of jewelry shops. Gold, silver, white gold, rose gold, platinum, and every precious stone you can think of. Most of it was beyond our budget, but there were a couple things that were so expensive that you wondered who would ever buy them.

Eventually, we reached the end of the bridge so we headed into the straw market, which is one of the only covered markets in Florence. There you can find any leather item, lots of wool, cashmere, or pashima products, and lots of beautifully decorated paper. After a while though it was time again to get on the number twenty eight bus again and head home.
